20 Reasons Men Cheat and How to Prevent It

20. It’s in His Genes – This one is low on the list because many men aren’t brave enough to use it as an excuse.  However, many psychiatrists do believe that there is something to the genetic makeup of men that instills the want or need to cheat.  Sadly, the only preventative step for this reason is to make sure you are doing everything you can to meet his needs.
19. Peer pressure – This is seen primarily in married men that have bachelor friends.  They see their friends going out and hooking up all of the time and they miss that life.  This could also apply to any man that has witnessed a friend get away with having an affair.
18. They were raised around it – Most men that cheat have grown up watching their fathers do it.  Again, the only surefire prevention for this is to make sure your relationship is healthy and honest.
17. He has a “Seize the Day” Mentality – When presented with the opportunity to cheat, it is hard for most men to turn away; this is especially true of older men.  Those that believe the prime of their life is slipping away will often think “I may never get this chance again.”  To keep these opportunities away, try being the sort of partner that would be out with your man in any situations where such an opportunity may present itself.
16. Emotional Disconnect – Believe it or not, it’s not all about sex.  Be sure to at least show an interest in your man’s feelings and interests.  If you don’t, chances are good that he will seek it elsewhere.
15. He’s a sex addict – This is another excuse that, while it sounds lame, has some biological merit to it.  If you or your man believes that he may be a sex addict, it’s a good idea to seek medical or psychological help before his addiction causes him to stray.
14. To feel appreciated – Many men, particularly those that have been married for a while, may start to feel that their partner no longer appreciates them and what they do for the relationship/family.  When he needs to feel appreciation, he may seek it in another woman.  It is important to let your man know that he is appreciated…if you need to use the bedroom as a means to show this, that’s even better!
13. To end a relationship – Sadly, there’s not much you can do to prevent this.  If a man wants out and his rudeness or arguments against you aren’t doing the trick, they may go to this drastic measure to end things.
12. It’s a challenge – To some men, it’s all about the sport.  Can they still lure another woman?  And can they do so without you finding out?  To keep his thoughts away from this, try to incorporate a commanding yet sexy persona in the bedroom…this is often enough of a challenge for some men.
11. It Makes Him Feel Younger – If his sex life is getting plain and boring, he may seek another partner who is more promiscuous and experimental.  Again—and this is usually the most common answer for preventing an affair—you may want to spice things up in the bedroom to keep this from happening.  While you can’t do much to make him feel younger, you can make him relive his glory days with an amazing romp in the sack.
10. A nagging partner – If a man has a wife that nags and complains all of the time, many men will use sex with others as their “medication” for the headache at home.  Prevention for this one is simple: choose your battles and don’t complain about everything.
9. To feel attractive – Once you stop paying your man’s body and appearance compliments, he will notice.  And he will often look for someone else that will be full of those compliments.  Simply take a moment every now and then to comment on your man’s body in a flattering way.
8. It’s exciting – Anything new sexually is going to appeal to your man, especially if a new woman is involved.  Keep him seeking that excitement at home and you shouldn’t have this problem.
7. He’s falling out of love – It doesn’t matter how tough a guy may seem…falling in love is still an amazing feeling.  If he finds himself “falling out of love” with you, he may look for that feeling in the pursuit of another woman.  If you ever sense that things are different in the love department, offer to talk about it and come to a conclusion and solution together before he decided to look somewhere else.
6. Revenge – If he’s been cheated upon, the chances are very good that he will return the favor.
5. Ego boost – If he starts feeling inadequate in his current relationship, he may enter into another sexual relationship where he can once again be seen as master of the bedroom.  To prevent this, try to make him feel stellar in the bedroom—deep down, men are just as sexually insecure as most women.
4. He knows you’ll forgive him – If he’s been caught before and you forgave him, he will take advantage of your forgiveness.  Simply state that there is zero tolerance for cheating in your relationship before things get serious.
3 . His partner doesn’t put out – If his sexual needs aren’t being met, he may find an urge to have the met somewhere else.  To turn him down every once in a while is okay but don’t make a habit out of it.
2. Current sex life is boring – If your sex life has become a “hurry up and get it over” 1-or-2 position routine, he will likely get very bored.  Try to keep your sex life fresh and exciting.  Use books, new positions and maybe even take lessons from pornography if it suits you.

1. His partner doesn’t turn him on anymore – We’re all going to age.  And as we age, our looks are going to slowly go downhill.  Still, it is important that you try to maintain the attractive qualities that won him over in the first place.  If you simply let yourself go and give in to age and weight issues, he’ll go out looking for an upgrade.
